Joke of d day :)

One morning a mother was trying to wake up her son.
"Wake up now! It's time to go to school."
"I don't want to go to school," the son replied.
His mother said, "Give me two reasons why you don't want to go to school."
"Okay. One, all the children hate me. Two, all the teachers hate me." "Not good enough," the mother replied.
"Fine," the son said. "Then you give me two good reasons why I SHOULD go to school."
"One, you're 50 years old. Two, you're the principal of the school."

Lionel Messi

My favorite football player is Lionel AndrĂ©s "Leo" Messi. He is lot like the soccer legend Maradona. He is also regarded as the successor of Maradona for Argentine Soccer Team. He plays as Second Striker for Argentina. He plays as a winger for FC Barcelona also. He has the number ‘10’ jersey. He prefers to play with his left foot. He is also in the top 5 players of the world and he is one of the players from the world XI and that’s what makes him my favorite football player.

When I was living in my house in Kanpur, I lived in a big and lonely colony. There were only 3 houses. Our house was a 2-storey building and I slept in a room on the 1st floor. One night, I read a ghost story. I woke at 12:00 am and I heard a strange noise. I ran downstairs, into the kitchen. I saw a shadow, which started following me. I ran back to the bed, and closed my eyes. I was very scared. After sometime, I fell asleep. When I woke up the next day morning, I narrated this incident to my mother. She explained that I didn’t even wake up and made me realized that it was a just a dream, but it was quite a scary one.

The person i admire the most !

David Beckham is an amazing footballer. He plays for England internationally. He plays currently for Los Angeles galaxy. He is a Midfielder. He is known for his brilliant free kicks. He is also known for some of his special moves like the Hows-Pows. He is regarded as the coolest players on the pitch.
His most sensational free kick was in the match England vs. Greece. There was only one minute of stoppage time left when David Beckham saved England at the death qualifying for the World Cup finals in 2001 and lifting the roof off at old Trafford with a wonder goal.
It is very well known because of the curve he put in it, and from that match the famous saying was derived, “Bend It Like Beckham”.  This is one of Beckham’s moment which will live on in soccer forever. He is my hero and he is the person I admire the most!

Nothing like reading !

“Nothing can replace reading”, says our beloved librarian Mrs. Sheeja Suresh. We all know that being a librarian is not an easy task. But Sheeja ma’am was a librarian in St. Johns school in Delhi, for the past ten years. She finds a lot of difference in the students of St. Johns and Gopalan. There she had to interact with students of classes above eighth whereas here she is experiencing  the way the younger kids are. She finds these kids  are very loving and interactive. The major difference she finds in the students of the higher classes in Gopalan and St. Johns, is that they do not use  the library much effectively. Sheeja ma’am feels that emphasis should be given to the study of classics, biographies, novels, encyclopedias, yearbooks, etc.
Sheeja ma’am says “Reading more books will always be profitable, and nothing will be lost.

Apart from her profession, Sheeja ma’am enjoys playing badminton and spending time with her family. Her family is the foremost for her. She has inspired her son, Sanjeet in reading lots of books by buying a bunch of them for him.
As a kid, Sheeja ma’am loved reading books, especially the Enid Blyton series. Reading was pretty much her passion. For time being, her favorite  author is Chetan Bhagat. She finds his writings very interesting and easy to understand. One of her favorite books of his is ‘Five Point Someone’.

We feel that Sheeja ma’am is someone from whom we can learn a lot of things! The way she speaks, her calm and quite attitude  and  the way she behaves very lovingly to everyone. She is one of the most caring and polite teachers in Gopalan. Her message to us— “ Next to acquiring good friends, the best acquisition is that of good books.” So we all must cultivate the good habit of reading .

ENTERTAINMENT !

As I sat in a dilemma as to what would attract the attention of a child, I explored all the instances that occur in our daily life, when I was struck by an obvious passion—Entertainment.
Entertainment is an act of enjoying one self, which included both physical and mental pleasures. This includes playing sports for some, television or radio for others and books for still others. Entertainment presents itself  in numerous forms and styles. Different people  have different interests and hence consider diverse activities for entertainment.
Entertainment today is a world of fun, frolic and fascination. Physical entertainment is on the rise with more and more people indulging themselves in sports  activities.
Reading entertainment however has been hitting a low among the youth since the past year. The reasons are due to decreasing interest in books and higher enthusiasm towards the television and computer.

Digital environment is now a world phenomenon which today  grabs a million hearts. The release of iPod, iPhone, iPad, iMac, etc. have made youth around the world attracted intensively. Video gaming and browsing are fast becoming acclaimed world wise.

Entertainment can hence be defined as the face of the world, if not the ruler. It has found a permanent and concrete entrance into the world of power.

Go to grass root level and solve it ! .......

Why did you choose teaching as a profession? Why did you choose Mathematics as your subject?
My reason behind choosing teaching as a profession is my teachers and I also like writing on the board. I chose to teach Mathematics because I like it.
Mathematics is generally considered a very difficult subject. What are your views on that?
Not really, Mathematics is a very easy subject. It does not need lot of effort if the concept is clear.
Do you have any advice to those students who have trouble with Mathematics?
Yes, go to the grass root level and see where the problem is and try to solve it!
Do you think that it is good to adapt the abacus into the Indian curriculum as the Chinese have done?
No, because abacus depend on the person using it. For example, a child may get confused between mathematics and abacus but if the same child under stands both, it will be easy for him/her.
Which was your last school? Did you teach Mathematics there as well?
My last school was Henrico Country Public School in Virginia, where I worked as a P.G Teacher.

Mind over matter

The mind is meant to absorb information, transform it into knowledge and lead it into action.                                                                       Action and speech determine the quality of our life and these come from the mind.
Our mind should be as soft as a sponge for maximum absorption, just as water can be easily absorbed by a sponge and squeezed out, a soft mind easily absorbs information and allows free flow of knowledge to enable suitable action.
A soft or open mind can be easily hardened and a hard or closed mind can be easily softened. These two processes are interchangeable. We only need to be aware and exercise caution
.
Do you know what makes our mind hard and closed?
It is because of when we come across information or situation which is not in line of our thinking, we immediately close our mind. This is what we call mindset. Mindset is a protective mechanism of self defense because we are scared of what others think about our not beliefs.

Mindset is self destructive and we have quite often experienced this. For example a simple  discussion   develops into an argument and can lead to a verbal fight, and can get more intense because of mindset.

But at the same time mere gathering of information by our mind is useless. We must be able to transform information into knowledge and knowledge into action. For this our mind should be pure.
How do we purify our mind?
For purity of mind we should think positively.
What is positive thinking?
Let me give you an example of a glass of water which is half full. A positive mind looks at it as half full and hence those kind of people are known optimists.
But a negative mind will look it as half empty and hence those kind of people are known as pessimists.
To make our mind positive and pure, we should review what we have done everyday by our words and actions.
Was my mind aggressive or calm?
Did my words and actions hurt or bring joy to people?
Self review will cleanse our minds of all mental dirt. To conclude let me give you three steps to overcome our mind and mindsets.
1) allow others the freedom to be as they are , without imposing our mindset of thoughts and ideas .
2) have faith and belief that god is in you.
3) spend some time quietly everyday thinking about your inner self.
This way the mind that seeks information can be changed into a mind meant for transformation of information to knowledge and into action for the welfare of the society at large.

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL

Mrs.Sandhya Raman our Principal is one of the most experienced and prestigious                                                                                    figures in Gopalan National School. Let’s Find Out Why?

Mrs. Sandhya Raman had been working in St.Josephs School, Bangalore. Her                                                                                           subject was math. The story of how she came into the profession of teaching is                                                                                           really interesting:

When she used to drop her two daughters Sukrata and Samyukta to the playgroup,                                                                                          she used to sit on a stone there, waiting for the kids because they wouldn’t let her                                                                                                  out of sight. Some students from the 10th and the 11th who got to know her as a                                                                                               math teacher got her to solve some sums .Then it became a routine of helping the                                                                                       students. Once one of the student’s parent told the principal of St.Josephs School                                                                                     that a woman helped in teaching her child math. So the principal decided to give her a job as a math teacher in class 10!

She was a bit nervous but eventually she became one of the best teachers!!  Awesome, isn’t it?!  Sandhya ma’am is a very jovial teacher. In fact she is totally interested in sports and was a good athlete.  She was the captain of the women’s basketball team. She participated in the national level basketball championship.  So aren't we lucky?
